The Olympus E-420 seems to be the best entry level digital SLR in the market as of todays date. Affordable, light-weight & packed with features that would definitely entice photography enthusiasts still stuck with a compact & wanting to upgrade to an SLR.
I checked out a piece recently and was relieved to find that it came with a live histogram & twin lenses OOTB. A live histogram view is definitely one thing that hobbyists moving from a consumer digicam look forward to. Another good thing is the supplied lens kit that comprises an Olympus Zuiko lens (F3.5-5.6, 14 - 42 mm) & an Olympus Zuiko lens (F2.8, 25 mm).
In the Indian market it retails at a price of around 34K. A nice price considering the excellent value proposition it makes for anyone interested in making a mark in the photography space.
